You’re Allowed to Change

Did I tell you I’ve joined a coven?

Every 6 weeks or so, I meet up with a group of creative, entrepreneurial women for what we call “Witchy Eve”. The gathering is the brainchild of my good friend, Michelle Mercurio, and I love it.

I credit Michelle and this group for guiding me to explore the magic of Tarot cards – and my own intuition. Whether we’re an actual “witches coven” or not, the experience is magical.

Last night I sat in our circle and I pulled the 10 of Wands from this deck. This card symbolizes the weight of the burdens we carry, that feeling of being near the end of a long creative journey – and discerning what you’re ready to put down.

As I’ve come to learn: the Universe is always speaking to us. And last night was the perfect example.

See, the reality is that I can feel things changing.

I can feel that I’m nearing the end of a long, creative journey – one that’s been extremely fulfilling… and one that’s also starting to feel complete.

It’s a thought, and an intuitive sense, that I’ve carried with me for a few weeks now. And as I’ve gotten curious about these whispers, this notion of closing a chapter, I stumbled upon a reminder that is equal parts exhilarating and terrifying:

You are allowed to change.

Now, I get this seems obvious. We know this intellectually. We observe change all around us: in the seasons, in babies learning to walk, in our routines and habits. Change is constant.

And also? How often do you actually listen to the voice inside you when it says: “this chapter is ending”?

Maybe it’s at work – starting to realize that you’re ready for something new or different.

Maybe it’s in a relationship – the quiet awareness that your wishes or desires have changed.

Maybe it’s in your city or where you live – a recognition that your physical environment isn’t serving you anymore.

As I sat with the symbolism and message of this card, I felt a huge rush of relief. This chapter may be coming to a close, and that’s ok.

I’m allowed to change, and so are you.

Try This Out

In the context of Life Design, the aspect I’m writing about is Discovery:

  • Noticing what’s going on – in your mind, body and spirit.

  • Being curious about signs and signals.

  • Investigating what lights you up, and what drags you down.

So today I’m going to share with you one of the exercises from “100 Days of Designing My Life: The Reflection Journal.” Specifically, Volume 1: Discover

We live so much of our lives on autopilot – going to work, making dinner, working out, parenting, etc – that we don’t often stop and pay attention to the clues all around us:

The aches and tension in our shoulders.

The frazzled thoughts in our head.

The emotions that live right below the surface.

The yearning from deep within us to pursue something more meaningful or more aligned.

What is your soul telling you today? Let’s practice listening to it.

  1. Find a comfortable seat, with your feet flat on the floor, and close your eyes or keep your gaze soft. Slowly inhale for a count of 3, then exhale for a count of 5. Repeat this three times.

  2. Next take a moment to scan your body – starting with your feet and working your way up to the crown of your head. Go slow and take note of any tingling, tightness, buzzing or any other sensations in your physical body. You might also notice emotions coming up. As best as you can, defer judgment on what these physical and emotional clues mean or why they’re happening. Just notice.

  3. When you’re ready, ask yourself – in your mind or aloud – what would you have me know today? Notice the answer or thought that comes to you. Write it down, and let that message stay with you over the course of the day. What meaning do you make of it?

What To Do Next

Funny enough, my intuition is telling me that the next guidance I want to offer you is to drink a lot of water!

Maybe that message is for me just as much as it is for you!

Remember, change is a constant, and the chapters of a book always reach a conclusion. This isn’t bad. This is the experience of life.

What chapter are you ready to close? What will that make possible for you to step into? I’d love to hear from you.

Onward,
